Description

A stress reliever from all the commissions I'm supposed to be doing (reason not posted much lately cause I'm far far behind. Sorry for taking so long). I have tons of things finished traditionally but haven't been able to clean up lately... He's not my best work. But He helped me get over the hump of some of my blocks. Enjoy.

Would like to give him a name and story but not thought of one. So anyone want to take a shot, go for it.

I wanted to critique this piece because of how I enjoy your style-- I personally think this mix of realism/anime is the best place on that spectrum. (I do prefer to see lineart in the image though). Your work here shows experience with facial structure, and that is what stands out most to me. My largest peeves are not in your technique, but more about the missing "story" aspects: as you wrote, you didn't give too much thought about who he is and what he is doing.
I think that perhaps lead to some ambiguity in your technique for this piece. The shading for example, is done very organically but it lacks contrast. If you could darken the shadows and lighten the highlights the piece would "pop" more. The shirts collar seems to not be shaded appropriately for your light source (close to the v, it blends into the skin). Lastly, the color selection is bright and diverse, but i do feel a little jarring. Adding more shadow will help with that, but you can also try to streamline your color scheme a little (for example, your other peices: [link],
[link] have a cool (ie cool vs. warm) color scheme that brings atmosphere.
And show more of the body! I love to see movement in art because it answers so many story questions (who is X, what do they do, where are they).
